I personally like to journal things before I begin actually writing the paper or story. I think it is very helpful to put all of your ideas down on paper before hand, even when they may not be organized. It only needs to make sense to the writer. It is a good technique to use, because this way you won't have everything just in your head and be forgetting things. Using the journal method, makes you brainstorm before you do anything. It is going to help you write a better paper.
